Introducing our Pugs of the Month

Smokey

I adopted Smokey from the Mid-Michigan "For the Love of Pugs" Rescue on February 16, 2006.

He is the sweetest and most loving dog I have ever known. It was obvious that he had formed an attachment to his foster parents because he was a little anxious the first night, but not one minute since.

He follows me all around the house and he is very good at letting us know when it is feeding time, even if it is an hour or two early.

I am not sure that there have been any major changes in Smokey’s behavior since he became one of my babies. It may have taken a little while for him to realize that he wasn’t going anywhere else and that this was his forever home, but once he did he made it his forever home.

Even though his back is not good, he runs along with the other Pugs and does not miss a thing. He does not allow his back legs to hold him back at all.

I got him the wheelchair because he loves to be out in the summer for longer periods of time. Unfortunately, is back legs get tired fairly quickly and he is not able to stay up on them and he then begins to drag them. The first summer here the insides of his back legs got so raw from his dragging them that I bought some doggy pants to keep them covered and started researching a place to buy a doggy cart/wheelchair.

His wheelchair is sturdy, but lightweight and has wheels that allow him to go anywhere he wants to go.

Just so you know that he is happy and spoiled to death, he will not move one inch in that wheelchair if I am around when he is in it. Why? He thinks I should carry him. He does win more often than I would like to admit, but he deserves it. Like all of my babies, he deserves all of the love that I am able to give, after all, he gives me all of his love and it is only fair that I do the same.
