Gone, but never forgotten.....
Pugs have a special quality about them, and so do their owners. Our Pugs are not just the family dog, but are an extension of our family. They are like children to us. So when we lose one of babies, it is overwhelming. The grief can consume us, and leave our hearts feeling physically crushed.
This page was created to offer our club members a special place to post a memorial with hope that it can help heal their hearts. We have received donations for our rescue program, "For the Love of Pugs", of $25 or more in memory of non-member's Pugs and have decided to also add those Pugs to this page.
Max
born approximately 1990
came to rescue in June 2002
departed September 1, 2006
It is with great sadness I write to let you all know that Max has passed away. He came into our rescue in 2002 and was not expected to make it at that time. He was emaciated (weighed 8lbs), had pneumonia and heart disease. He was later found to have mass cell tumors also. Max defied the odds though and survived 4 more years. Just a few months back I adopted him myself as I felt he deserved to be more than a foster. He was loved dearly and will be missed.
Max was guessed to be 16 this year. He just could not fight the heart disease and longer. Sept. 1st, I got home from work and found him laboring to breath. He had done this before and always pulled through after a couple days of increasing his lasix, so I was not too alarmed. After I woke from sleeping, I found Max unable to stand on his own, and his mouth turning blue. He could barely pick up his own head and had coughed up a lot of fluid in his bed. I rushed him to the vet hoping we could pull him though this crisis, but the vet felt he had only hours left. I did the humane thing and let him go.
Please keep max in your thoughts as he finds new friends at the bridge tonight.
Doodee
1987-2001
Pugnacious "Doodee" Hoeppner was a $50 pug with no papers and parents who were siblings. Before we knew that wasn't a good situation, she taught us that it doesn't matter where you come from--it's what you do with what you have. She taught us about pugs. She made us laugh with her "love is good but food is better" philosophy. When she was 7, the back half of her body began to fail her. By the time she went to go to the bridge two months shy of her 15th birthday, she had taught us all that despite severe handicaps, there's much more to life than disabilities. She taught us that you adapt and then go on with life. She was a sweetheart, and we miss her.
Mugsy
came to rescue in August 14, 2005
found his forever home December 30, 2006
departed June 2, 2007
Mugsy came into the rescue with his sister Maude. It was hoped that they could be adopted into a home together since they had been together since birth. Unfortunately this didn't happen and Maude was adopted out several months after coming into the rescue. Mugsy stayed in his foster home for over a year and was a complete gentleman to have around. A wonderful couple did end up adopting Mugsy. His new home was absolutely beautiful with lots of fields to run in and a little stream to chase critters around. Mugsy got to go to school with his new "parents" and visit the kids there and he got to spend a lot of time with grandkids that dearly loved him. Very shortly after going to his new home, Mugsy was diagnosed with a very aggressive lymphatic cancer. He had up and down days. Mugsy got to go camping over the Memorial Day weekend and had a great time but after the weekend he got increasingly worse and the decision was made to let him go on June 2. His family will miss him dearly - he became a big part of the family in a very short time and they so much appreciated the little bit of time that they did get to spend with him. Your family and your foster parents love you Mugsy and you will be greatly missed!

"Nikki"
December 27, 1996-July 30,2007
Nikki slept with Connie Esch (who bred her) at 5 wks old. She came to live with me forever when she was about 10 wks old. She was my queen!!!! My lady!!! She was an alpha from the get go.....but once she accepted a dog into her pack....all was well as long as they knew she was the boss!! She was the first AKC Champion that I finished myself. She was the first mom that I ever had and gave me 3 beautiful litters! She had her Registry of Merit from the Pug Dog Club of America for producing 4 AKC Champions.
She was my bed buddy......my cuddler....and a wonderful kisser!!! We went through a lot of living together!!! She was the smartest dog I have ever owned......and had so much spirit...enough to keep her spunky even after she injured her back! She is greatly missed!
I hope that Nikki ran right into Nancy Jester's arms as she crossed the bridge!
Wisselwood Little Miss Gambler
(Maria)
March 9, 1997-October 5, 2007
Maria was the light of Nancy Jester's life! After Nancy passed away last year, her partner, Jean Lumbert, took over. Maria became Jean's bed partner. She and Swin, their 4 yr old black pug were great buddies and would always go outside together! I remember when Terri Smith was dying and he held her and could not get over how soft she was! She was soft and real cuddly with a wonderfully mushy face!
She had had health problems and was being lovingly taken care of for the last few years. Jean noticed a problem with her breathing and took her to the vet and a growth was found. She got a shot and perked up a bit for a short time. She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge into Nancy arms on Oct 5, 2007 at 3:30 pm.
Pugsley
March 9, 2000-September 27, 2007
Pugsley brought unconditional love to the Mehl family for 7 years. He is greatly missed and will always be loved.
Allyson
1991-2006
Allyson Hoeppner, originally called Ally, was a wonderful pug.
In the beginning at night, she made a very warm fur hat or fur collar...during the day, she was all puppy. She made her way in a family where there was already an older pug, Doodee (also on this memorial page) and they became fast friends.
She was a super mother to her stuffed dog, Buster....making sure Buster was in bed with us and tucked in before she would go to sleep herself. She took good care of her buddy as Doodee’s health began to fail. Allyson was never far away from Doodee.
Later, she continued her talent for motherhood, being a sort of foster mother to Daisy Whippet, who had come to live in our house as a puppy and again during Al’s last years. She taught Daisy and little pug sister, Jessi, everything they needed to know about living in our family.
Allyson was a trooper when it came to her own later years and her medical issues.
In her last couple of months, she preferred to sleep on the floor in the midst of the noise and chaos of toddler grandchildren playing...
Two days before she passed away, she took a wagon ride with two of the grandbabies...and you could see how much she loved that ride and those children...and how much they loved her.
We will always love Allyson, and we miss her very much.
